bye*partisan
Senior Capstone Project
Summer + Spring 2025
Project Overviewbye*partisan is an experiential installation designed to help high school students introspectively examine and understand their media biases.
Born from my own frustration at navigating political dialogue, bye*partisan is a response to the lack of media literacy education within school curricula. Despite high school students being on the verge of voting age, many haven’t learned how to spot bias or question what they’re consuming. These are skills that are essential for informed, respectful conversation. I wanted to create an experience that encourages young people to question what they read, think for themselves, and stay open to different perspectives.
bye*partisan is...a traveling installation, engaging, educational, interactive, introspective
is not...overwhelming, polarizing, exclusive, intimidating

Problem Statement
In today’s polarized media landscape, high school students are entering adulthood without the ability to identify bias or think critically about the news they consume. In turn, this leaves them vulnerable to misinformation and unchecked opinions. As these students approach voting age, they risk carrying bias into their political and professional lives, reinforcing cycles of polarization and limiting productive discourse.

Design Solution
bye*partisan is a traveling, interactive installation that brings media literacy education directly to high school students in a way that is engaging, digestible, and introspective. This hands-on experience is both friendly and approachable, inviting students to interact with the displays. Challenging prompts encourage students to reflect on whether they harbor their own biases and reevaluate the news they consume.

Environmental Graphic Design Co-Op
Spring + Fall 2024
Co-Op Overview
On the EGD team at MSA I wore many hats, meaning I touched small parts of every project on the team rather than completing one from start to finish. Because of this I was able to be involved in each phase in the EGD process, from conceptual ideation to fabrication + install. The projects highlighted below showcase my involvement during the conceptual design and iteration phases.

Reds Opening Day Mailer
Print + Digital Marketing Campaign
Spring 2024
Project Overview
While at MSA, I played a key role in bringing the creative vision of the annual Reds Opening Day mailer to life. The mailer not only showcases the talent of MSA’s graphics team but also reinforces a broader marketing message—this year’s edition celebrating Cincinnati Reds legend Joey Votto. The mailers are distributed to clients, partners, consultants, employees, and new prospects, serving as both a marketing touchpoint and a celebration of MSA’s role as the official architects of the Reds. As part of the campaign, MSA continues its tradition of giving staff the day off to attend the game, while also inviting partners, friends, and family to join in the festivities, strengthening connections and promoting community engagement.

Joey Votto: The Most Interesting Man in Baseball
Done in collaboration with Hannah Williams (designer) and the MSA marketing team, my primarily role was to translate the creative direction into the print mailer showcased above. I experimented with typography, duotone image treatment, color pallete, and organization to arrive at the final design. Reminiscient of an old baseball card, the style is meant to feel nostalgic, but still in line with the MSA brand.Message from Marketing
JoVo. Votto-matic. Votto the Viking. He may have endless nicknames, but there is only one Joey Votto. Premiering in MLB with the Reds in 2007, he’s been the city’s golden boy for 16 years. He didn’t just hit home runs, he smashed a grand slam straight into the heart of Reds fans and the city of Cincinnati. In honor of his tenure with the Redlegs, we are celebrating all things Votto—his legacy on the field, the man behind the hits and runs, his impact on our city, and how he fits into Reds history. With a career like JV’s, it is undeniable he deserves a spot in the Reds and MLB Halls of Fame.

SEGD: Designers of Experiences
Graphic Design Co-Op
May — September 2023
Co-Op OverviewAs the design co-op for the summer at SEGD, I wore many hats. With a small team of five at the non-profit organization, my role involved a blend of design, marketing, communications, UX/UI, and publication design. My main task included website updates and content upload through WordPress, which I became highly proficient in. Besides the exciting launch of the new website, I also worked on the annual magazine publication, an environmental graphic for the conference, merchandise, app content, and attended the 50th Anniversary Conference Experience in Washington, D.C.

SEGD’s 50th Anniversary Conference Experience
Framing the Past to Envision Our Future
Throughout the conference, I had the privilege of attending keynote presentations, including Michael Gericke's 'What's in a Name? The Story Behind the SEGD Brand Refresh,' as well as Elizabeth Turnstall's thought-provoking talk on 'Decolonizing Design.' During our ‘Experience Washington D.C.’ tours, I led the WMATA Legacy Tour, guiding participants on a journey through the historical evolution of D.C.'s transportation design system, which ended with a visit to the newly revamped Metra headquarters in Washington, D.C. Last but not least, I had the chance to connect with numerous designers in the experiential design industry, forming valuable professional connections.

EXP Lunch + Mentor Meet-Up
For the Emerging Experiential Professionals (EXP) luncheon and meet-ups, I assumed the role of the SEGD representative, responsible for ensuring the events ran smoothly. I also had the opportunity to engage as a mentee in mentorship sessions, and attend the presentations sponsored by Pentagram, Kolar Design, RSM Design, and Tangram Design.

Merchandise
With the launch of SEGD’s new logo and branding, the team was excited to create a new set of merchandise to sell at the conference. I assisted with the design of our new mugs, T-shirts, beanies, and ornaments. After SEGD’s collaboration with Pentagram, Jacob Goble, and James Hallock on the merch, it was rewarding to sell the finished product at the conference knowing that I played a part in its creation.

Auction for Excellence
Every year at the conference, SEGD hosts a spirited auction to raise funds for SEGD education initiatives. For the auction, I created place cards that highlighted the individual item's details and served to generate excitement among conference attendees in the lead-up to the auction.
I also lived out my dreams as a game show host and got to play Vanna for the evening, and did my best rendition of dressing like our new 50th logo.

Timeline
The most special and rewarding project I worked on was an EGD piece for the D.C. Conference. Because SEGD was celebrating 50 years, the team wanted to create a timeline to showcase the organization’s history, noting past conference locations, fellow inductees, and key points in SEGD history. Seeing my final design in print at the conference, and watching the attendees enjoy reading through it was the best moment of gratification.
Information Organization

After speaking with the team, I created a master spreadsheet organized by decade of every notable event from SEGD history.
We used a color-coded system to then indicate which moments were most important to put in the timeline, keeping in mind that we had limited space in order to comply with ADA guidelines. A darker green denotes most important, red least, and yellow in between.

Although we ultimately decided to go with a vertical style timeline for ease of transportation, I first explored various orientations and styles in which we could potentially honor SEGD’s history

Another consideration was how to ensure that the timeline panels would work cohesively with the pull-up banners Pentagram had already designed, and our signage sponsor, PLi

Digital Sketching + Accessibility ConsiderationsWith a cap of five banners as well as limited space for historical benchmarks and pictures, I created multiple iterations testing different type sizes and increments (in inches) to check for legibility and accessibility compliance.

In Context

Website When I began my co-op in May, SEGD had the goal to launch their brand new website by August 18th. The team had yet to complete the design and upload of their Global Design Awards section on their website, which is one of the most visually interesting and important aspects of SEGD. My task was to help facilitate the upload of every page from 2020-2023, ready to launch the newest award winners at the 2023 Conference at the end of August.
Organization
With a total of 150+ projects to upload, keeping all our data organized was essential. I created a master spreadsheet to track our progress and communicate easily with our web development team at WideEye, leaving space for notes with concerns about specific pages.
WordPress
The setup below shows how I would build each project page in WordPress by selecting blocks from our template, imagery, and linking other website assets within the right sidebar

Invisible Wounds
Design Research + Print Design
Graphic Design Studio — Spring 2023
Project DetailsThis information-heavy poster transforms complex data and research into a visually compelling and accessible infographic. Based on Claudia Wallis’ article “Mass Shootings Leave Lasting Psychological Wounds,” the piece tackles a socially significant and urgent issue: the deep and lasting mental health impact of mass shootings. Beyond raising awareness, the infographic advocates for action. It urges schools, policymakers, and the public to recognize the long-term psychological toll of mass shootings and to invest in critical mental health resources for survivors and affected communities.

An infographic meant to educate and persuade.
With a recent shooting taking place at Michigan State University, I’ve felt the effect this kind of news has on my peers and especially on those who attend MSU. Students are scared, and feel lost with how to cope. My hope is to bring awareness to the lasting impact of these tragedies, in an effort to encourage schools to take action in providing mental health resources post-trauma.Purpose Strategy
To Educate
people on the invisible wounds that mass traumas leave on their victims. This includes depression, PTSD, anxiety disorders, panic attacks, substance use disorders, and phobias. To Persuade
Americans, schools, and government officials that these psychological wounds need to be addressed with more mental health resources, and that mass shootings affect lives beyond the immediate victims and their families.Process Work

Data to Include
GENERAL MASS SHOOTING DATA (context)
- Data pulled from Statistica, referenced below. Summarized and designed to be understood more easily.

RESULTING PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS (problem)
- Major depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety disorders, panic attacks, substance use disorders, and phobias were the most common psychiatric conditions.
- There was a 21.4 percent increase in antidepressant prescriptions for people under age 20 in the local area where a school shooting had occurred, compared with areas 10 to 15 miles away. An elevated use of antidepressants persisted two years after the incident.
- Visuals of a brain with PTSD vs no PTSD, pulled from the National Library of Medicine with an explanation for viewers to understand significance.
- The National Center for PTSD estimates that 28 percent of people who have witnessed a mass shooting develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and about a third develop acute stress disorder.
HOW CAN WE HELP? (solution)
-
Galea and Lowe say an approach called “psychological first aid” is recommended after traumatic events. “Psychological first aid starts with education, making people who might be affected aware” of possible mental health symptoms, Galea explains. “Then it moves on to giving them tools, and then it moves on to helping people access care if they need it. It is a way of sequencing interventions.” A school-specific manual is available from the federally funded National Child Traumatic Stress Network.
- Specific quotes pulled from the Psychological First Aid for Schools Field Operations Guide, created by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network National Center for PTSD.
